My Tumblr: TheWinterBunny

Pristine amethyst eyes framed in smoky lashes thick enough to make any doe jealous gazed at the copper-furred figure sitting quietly on the couch by the window. With his head, angled low, eyes the colour of emeralds intently focused on the pages of a hard cover, leather-bound book held in one paw, Nick Wilde sat in silent reverie, studious and focused. If he was aware of the other presence that entered the living room, he did show it. Not even an ear twitch. Just the flicker of movement from lamplight caught his eyes as they swept across the page. The cunning fox may at times, put on the charade of aloof interest, but only a fool would take Nick Wilde for a fellow who was vacant in his sense of awareness.

Judy stood on the threshold of the room, leaning her slender little shoulder against the wall, eyeing the very creature that had once been the cause of so much grief. All the past prejudice and whispered worrying’s of her parents had almost caused her to miss out on the best thing that ever happened to her formerly mundane life.

Thinking back on the wild adventures they had, and the swift hand of karma that seemed to play a major role in their growing friendship, Judy couldn’t help but feel a grin tugging at her features, causing the pink of her nose to twitch a bit when she caught a whiff of the foxes scent.

DNA… There was a time and perhaps that time still exists, when a bunny would turn tail and run at the scent of a fox. For Judy however, the scent brought on a swell of comfort – one strong enough to combat her instincts. It was a smell she’d grown very fond of… Even if her family didn’t appreciate the ‘odor’ lingering on her every time she returned to Bunnyburrow for a visit.

“You know, in polite society, staring is still considered rude.” The velveteen voice and dry humor buzzed into her thoughts, causing the bunny to blink, nose twitching thrice when she realized he’d been fully aware of her all along – as she ought to have guessed. Having come to, Judy realized that Nick was no longer studying the pages of his book but was now intently focused on her. Those emerald eyes of his gazed at her from below an angled brow, as if waiting for something.

“Well?”

Swallowing thickly in hopes to smooth out the edges of her voice, Judy then cleared her throat, just to be sure. “Well what?”

“Well. Are you going to join me, or do I have to come over there and ‘fetch’ you?” The soft edge of enjoyment at her expense slipped into his honeyed voice and Judy was left gawking at him. He was suave while she was… Well. Articulate.

“A bit archaic, don’t cha think?” Judy counters, trying to muster up some form of an affectionate scowl rather than a giddy grin, and instead finds herself caught uncomfortably between the two.

Nick on the other hand, shook his head languidly, clicking his tongue. “Oh Carrots.” He laments with a whimsical sigh. “We -are- animals, after all.” He flashed his brows at her, giving her a cheeky, devil-may-care grin. “I know it’s a small couch, but you’re a bunny. You can’t possibly take up -that- much room.”

With a nudge of her shoulder, Judy straightened and started half marching, half gingerly meandering towards him. “Hey, easy there, you’re getting dangerously close to kicking territory.” She warned, though the warning was lightly taken with a grain of salt due to the crooked smile that was growing on her bunny-lips. Then again, one does not simply talk about a bunny’s weight. They tend to be rather sensitive about that, since they are genetically prone to be a little bigger on the bottom. (It’s all muscle, of course!)

Nick threw up a Scout sign, and raised his chin. “Wouldn’t dream of it.” He said with a simper tugging his muzzle. “Scouts Honour.” For whatever reason, knowing about the canines that lie beneath gave Judy a giddy sort of thrill.

“Clever fox.” She says with a smirk, hopping up onto the arm of the couch.

Nick cocked a lazy brow and then with his free arm, he wrapped it around Judy’s middle and smoothly tugged her right into his lap. “Small bunny.” He murmured with a roguish grin.

Judy on the other hand was simply beside herself. They’d bantered, teased, jested, and joked but had never quite breached the boarders of friendship into other realms of familiarity. Whether this was Nick being Nick or Nick being forward, Judy had no idea. All she knew was that she was a bunny-scream away from throwing herself out of his lap and 'NOPING' her way into the next room in order to regain her own sense of self-control and reestablish boundaries.

She is only a bunny after all and when bunnies are overrun with big emotions, there can sometimes be big consequences.

The fox that imprisoned her however, seemed all but content with the present situation and returned to his lounging, book propped open and eyes gazing at its pages again rather than the blushing bunny that was left quite dumb in his lap. All her regular go-to reactions were wiped off the board and Judy Hopps was for once, left quiet speechless. Instead, she kept her ears folded down over her tiny shoulders, and remained motionless in his lap while Nick returned to reading.

For a fellow who could be incredibly blunt with his forward and at times (in her opinion) abrasive sincerity, he was, on the other hand, impossible to read at times. Now was one of those times.

Not daring to look up, Judy instead focused on the pages in front of her while the rhythmic thrum of Nick’s heartbeat hummed in her ears. It only took her the first sentence before she realized she knew which book he was reading. Instantly her confidence returned, and her comfort levels elevated.

“I love this book!” She said excitedly.

“I know.” Came Nick’s sage reply.

Feeling a little indignant, Judy raised a brow. “How do you know?”

“Its yours.” He said casually.

“What?” Sitting up straight, Judy fingered to the front page to see her name scribbled in the bottom right-hand corner, and then she twisted her torso to stare at him. “How did you…?”

Nick, seemingly brimming with smug amusement, spoke before she could say anything. “You make a cute cop, Carrots, but I reckon you’d make a cute librarian too.”

Well that caused Judy’s lips to tighten and a soft, near soundless snort left her small triangular nose.

“Just saying.” Shrugs the fox.

Judy smiled sarcastically, wrinkling her nose this time. “No thanks – not enough action for me.

“Suit yourself.” Licking the pad of his fourth digit, Nick went to flip the page and paused. “I’m assuming you’re done reading this page, or are you only fast when you run and hustle?”

Now it was Judy’s turn to be smug. “Sweetheart, I could finish reading these pages before you’ve finished your first paragraph.”

Nick gave her a sly grin as a reward. Whether Judy knew it or not, the clever Fox had offered her a challenge to distract her from her own inhibitions and allow her to at last breach the realms of comfort with him – even if it was as simple as sitting in his lap and reading a book. “Is that a challenge, Carrots?”

“Why yes Nick.” Came her sweet-voiced reply. “I believe it is. If I win, you visit Bunnyburrow.”

“Mmm.” The fox wrinkled his nose, as if the idea was positively insulting to him before the grin returned. “And if I win, you come with me.”

“If -you- win, I’ll let you drive.”

Nick gave her the sink eye for a moment before he announced, “Deal.” And at last turned the page. “Better settle in, -sweetheart-, and get comfortable with the idea of a fox behind the wheel.”

“In your dreams, Nick.”

Oh, if only you knew, Carrots... He thought.

Here's another #Zootopia #WildeHopps doodle for you all. Hehe, Nick wanted to get to know Judy a little better so he's reading a book that was absolutely covered in her scent, which told him she'd read it more than once. Getting to read it with Judy in his lap was an added bonus and he scored himself a trip to Bunnyburrow to boot! Clever Fox ;)

In my mind, Judy wouldn't make the first move. Not in a romantic way. She is however the light in Nick's life (as I see it) and she's the one who gets Nick to believe in himself again. Judy is pure, full of love and life and its infectious and for Nick he wants to be a part of that. A part of her life. So he's doing what he can to find his place with her - and since Judy has no idea how to 'relationship' (kind of like how I have no idea how to tumblr!) Nick has to get the ball rolling. so I thought this was one possible scenario to do just that!

I really adore these two, and shamelessly ship them so hard! (Did I mention I have no shame??)

This was done via pencil sketch then inked it by hand, then scanned it and coloured it with pixlr.com since I don't have photoshop. :( (Sad) I also have no tablet so colouring this with the mousepad on my laptop was a royal pain. >.<

Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy! <3
